NEW market study: analysis of the global market for bio-based platform chemicals

12. April, 2012

weastra is currently working on the BioConSepT project (Bio-Conversion and Separation Technology), which is funded by the European Commission. This project aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility of White Biotech processes for the conversion of 2nd generation biomass into platform chemicals.

weastra is a part of a consortium coordinated by the Dutch research institute which consists of 31 partners from research & technology organizations, large industrial companies and small and medium-sized enterprises from 12 countries. The project has an overall budget of €13 million and receives €8.9 million in EU funding.

Our role in this project is to analyze the global market for bio-based platform chemicals and their potential as a substitute for the petroleum-based platform chemicals. Our work includes the following analysis:

  • analysis of market size and market value for each defined platform chemical separately
  • analysis of consumer needs
  • analysis of market potential and market trends for each defined platform chemical separately
