New visa restrictions in Czech Republic

23. February, 2012

Due to a rising unemployment rate in Czech Republic, the government has ordered to stop issuing work permits to non-EU foreigners with low qualifications.

The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic in January was 9.1% with the number of job seekers increasing 25,638 month on month to a total of 534,089 people.

Existing work permits will now be extended in the absence of qualified EU workers and for a limited period of 6 months. Meanwhile non-EU foreigners who are temporarily sent to the Czech Republic on an agreement signed before 1.1.2012 will be asked to provide proof their professional qualification is recognized.
