Slovak industry on the rise

The Slovak Statistics Office ŠÚSR reports a further dynamic growth of the Slovak industry for May. According to the Office the industrial production rose by 31.4% over the same month a year ago. The processing industry rose by 36.5%, the production of gas, electricity and heat by a strong 13.4%.

Within the manufacturing industry a large majority of sectors recorded high double-digit growth rates. The chemical industry heads the growth rates with a stunning 103.1% increase. The production of computers and other electronic and optical devices rose by 89%, production of machinery and equipment by 66.4%, automobile production by 57.8% and the pharmaceutical production by 43.8%. Only the oil refinery and coke industry (-33.4%) and the food industry (-5.9%) saw declining production rates.

As one of the only sectors the construction industry remains in negative numbers. The Statistical Office reported a decline of the construction industry by 8.9% for May (over the same period a year ago), where production decreased in Slovakia by 5.1%, and by 60.1% abroad. In Slovakia construction of new buildings, modernization and reconstruction sank by 6.9%, while the numbers for maintenance and repairs rose slightly by 3.8%.
