Unemployment rate in Slovakia rose to the highest level since 2005

21. October, 2011

On October 20th, the Labor, Social Affairs and Family Centre (ÚPSVaR) has announced that unemployment rate rose in September to 13.37%. About 8.7% off all registered applicants are school leavers who represent around a quarter of all newly-registered applicants. As September was the first month in which the amended Labor Code has been effective, some analysts warn that the high unemployment rate may also be influenced by delayed layoffs, as companies are waiting for the new severance rules to become valid which would make dismissing employees cheaper and easier.
